Our Mission

The Foundation for Jewish Philanthropies is a not-for-profit, public charity established in 1911 to provide for the quality and continuity of Jewish life in Western New York and around the world through private philanthropy. The Foundation seeks, accepts, manages and distributes charitable legacies, bequests, trusts, endowments and other philanthropic funds for the benefit of our community. The Foundation is committed to the highest ethical and professional standards of fundraising, grantmaking and nonprofit management.

Jewish Values

The Foundation’s programs and activities are inspired by the values of our Jewish heritage to provide for the welfare of future generations through: Tzedakah (practicing charity and justice); Tikun Olam (repairing the world); and Gemilut Chasadim (performing acts of kindness and compassion).

Charitable Distributions

The Foundation makes grants to a wide variety of charitable organizations and causes as recommended and designated by its donors. Grants and loans are made for academic scholarships and other forms of financial aid to individuals and families in need. In addition, the Foundation may provide funding in response to emergencies affecting the Jewish community locally, nationally and internationally. Foundation grants may also be made to support new initiatives, innovative programs and special community projects.

Services to Donors

The Foundation helps its donors to meet their charitable goals by providing them with expertise in planning and implementing charitable gifts. The Foundation works cooperatively with its donors and their professional advisors to define and facilitate their personal charitable choices.

Services to Affiliates

The Foundation actively solicits and receives gifts from individuals, corporations, and public and private foundations on behalf of its affiliated Jewish charities, including social service agencies, organizations, schools and synagogues. The Foundation serves its affiliates by providing for their long-term financial security through development consulting, campaign management, marketing, fund administration and financial reporting.
